According to Google, existing UA users should continue to use that product alongside GA4 until the new product is entirely developed.

Why Now Is The Right Time To Start Using GA4?
There’s been a shift, for sure. Previously, most individuals used Universal Analytics (GA of old) as their primary reporting tool, with GA4 as a comparison tool. Alternatively, you may use it to generate more advanced audience lists for retargeting with Google Ads if you’re ahead of the curve.
Now, Google is warning users to prepare for the change: GA4 will soon be the default platform, with UA serving as a historical record of earlier data for comparisons in the future.

Create A Property
The first step is to sign in to your Google Analytics account. Click “Admin” in the bottom right corner of your GA dashboard.
Click “Create Property” at the top of the second column in the middle of the page when the following screen appears. Because a property represents your business website data, you’ll want to fill in the “Property Name” section with the name of your business website. Then, if you’re running an e-commerce website, you’ll choose the time zone your company is based on and the accepted currency type. To move on to the next phase, click “Next” after completing these steps.
Google will need to gather information about your company on the next screen. Giving Google Analytics this information allows the product to customise its performance to fit your individual needs, resulting in more relevant data and accurate results.
Choose an “Industry Category” from the drop-down box (for example, “Business and Industrial”), then the “Business Size” that best describes your organisation (ranging from “Small 1-10” to “Very Large 500+ people).
Define how your company expects to use GA4 in the following step of the process. Choose from a list of several purposes that apply to your analytics needs. Choose both options to utilise GA4 to track lead generation and customer engagement. If your intended use isn’t listed, choose “Other.”
Click the “Create” button once you’ve entered your company information and explained how you want to use GA4. You’ll be invited to accept Google’s Terms of Service Agreement right away, which you must do before moving on to the next step and finishing the GA4 setup.
Web Stream Details
After accepting the TOS, you’ll be prompted to create a data stream in a new window. The Web Stream Details page will open after you select Web. You’ll confirm your website’s Stream URL and Stream Name here. Allow the Enhanced Measurement button to remain selected. “Create Stream” will appear.
Linking UA & GA
You’ll need to connect the UA and GA4 products since you wish to pull information from your website. When you link UA and GA4, you have a single piece of code that you can use to transmit data to both analytics platforms from your website. Select the “Use existing on-page tag” tab from the “Tagging Instructions” section of the page. Then choose “Google Tag Manager.” Selecting this option reveals the following set of instructions you’ll need to finish the setup process:
- Open the Google Tag Manager container you’ve added to your page.
- Select New from the Tags menu.
- Select GA4 Configuration from Tag Configuration.
- Select to activate the tag on all pages by entering the measurement ID.
- After that, give your tag a name (for example, “GA4 Configuration”), so you can remember it, and then click the “Save” button.
Make it Live
It’s now time to activate GA4 on your website. Click the “Submit” button in the Tag Manager, then add a version name and description if needed to make this version stand out from prior versions. After that, click the “Publish” button to make GA4 active on your website.
Confirm and View
Select the new GA4 property in Google Analytics to confirm that GA4 was correctly installed on your site and provides data to your account. Check the “Real-Time” report to ensure GA4 is up and running and transmitting new data to your account.
